An Egyptian Christmas
Egypt's main church is anOrthodox churh. It is the Coptic
churh. Unlike Americans Christmas is clebrated on the
seventh of December instead of the twenty-fifth. In my Church
we have four weeks of advent were we light four different candles.
The Egyptian advent lasrs for forty days and during the advent
people are expected to fast. They are not suppost to eat
any meat, and no puoultry or dairy produtcs. Although the
majority of people only fast for the last week of advent.
Before Christmas Eve everyone is suppost to go out and buy
some new close that have never been worn before. They are to wear
them to a church survice on Christmas Eve until the church bells ring
at midnight. Then everyone heads home for a speacial Christmas dinner that
consists of bread, rice, garlic and boiled meat.
On Christmas morning people in the midle east and in egypt
visit friends and neighbors. People bring with a kind of short bread called Kaik.
They bring the kiak with them to the people they are going to see.
Then everyone visits and they drink shortbad. Christmas day is also a holiday for christians.
